Skip the Sparks & Stop the Fires
Fireworks Are Banned in Chelan & Douglas Counties
Summer in North Central Washington is amazing! We want everyone to enjoy our beautiful sunshine and blue skies, lakes and rivers, forests and mountains, and the hospitality of our restaurants and businesses.
We also want you to be safe.
In Chelan and Douglas counties, fireworks are banned in both the cities and unincorporated areas. The only exception is Rock Island, where private fireworks are allowed in the city limits during limited hours on July 3-4.
Why have our communities banded together to put an across-the-board ban on fireworks?
Our counties are some of the most wildfire-prone communities in the state. Every year, wildfires in eastern Washington burn thousands of acres, cause urgent emergency evacuations and, at times, destroy structures and homes.
One spark is all it takes to ignite a wildfire.
The majority of wildfires are human-caused. Whether you are a local resident or a visitor, we ask that you respect the fireworks bans so you don’t ignite a wildfire.
Instead, take in a free, public fireworks display. Or use party poppers or glowsticks in your celebrations. Skip the sparks this Fourth of July!
